The Caloundra Film Festival began in 2013. With the kind assistance of our principal partners, The Sunshine Coast Council, Screen Queensland, Telstra and Big Screen Cinemas Caloundra, we have grown substantially each year.
This event will fulfil one of our primary aims; to connect with the greater community and engage with them about film culture.
The Student Showcase, which is our initiative to highlight the talents of the media students in this region, highlights one of curatorial ambitions for the Festival.
We are not just about showcasing the best of local and world Cinema, we aim to encourage the brightest and youngest of our film makers and provide pathways for them to fulfil their ambitions.
This year we thank the University of the Sunshine Coast, QUT and JMC Academy for sending representatives to the Student Showcase and to assist in this regard. We also owe a debt of thanks to the committed teachers of Film and Media who bring out the best in their students and who are utterly committed to them.
The Festival also owes many thanks to Nick Struik and family who operate Big Screen Cinemas, Caloundra. Nick and his team provide theatre space for the Festival and help us in every way.
At the Pop-up Cinema at Blackwater Trading Co. we show film shorts across different genres and again, engage with the local community. We thank Matt and Sharon Wilson for their generosity and support.
We will continue in our aim to become a leading film festival and a regional event.
It is our wish to attract partners, filmmakers, local and international visitors and to engage with the communities in our greater region to deliver a festival that demonstrates how rich and varied both the film culture and this part of the world can be.
It's a perfect time to get on board with an exciting growth in film and arts culture.
