Drama-Crime- French culture
Following the massive success of his 2025 hit The Stolen Painting, acclaimed writer/director Pascal Bonitzer brings his unique perspective and panache to Simenon’s cherished Parisian detective – Maigret --a French counterpart to Agatha Christie’s Poirot – as he attempts to solve the murder of a diplomat with a long-held secret.
Inspector Maigret is played this time around by four-time César nominee Denis Podalydès ( just seen in Before What Comes in a tremendous performance. He moves a lot more that Depardieu who last played him and was like a stationary hot air balloon. Podalydes brings his trademark range of expressions to the role and is enjoyable to watch from start to finish.
