We welcome in 2020 uncertain about our long term future, but certain that on Tuesday the 28tht of January we will be bringing you our first ‘monthly’ of the year; The Truth. (French with English Subtitles)
Directed by Japanese master Kore-eda Hirokazu (Shoplifters) and starring Catherine Denueve and Juliette Binoche together for the first time, The Truth has been a massive hit in France and all lovers of French Cinema will enjoy this film.
It’s a Dramedy, yes a Drama laced with many comedic elements and anyone aware of Kore-eda’s gifts as film-maker and storyteller will be aware that he is revered for his ability to get the most out of family interactions.
That comes in handy here as Denueve plays the remote successful actress to a tee, re-writing her history, unapologetic and unfeeling when it comes to dealing with her estranged daughter Binoche and her largely unsuccessful partner, played brilliantly by Ethan Hawke.
“Elegant and delightful.” Graeme Blundell Foxtel. “Works splendidly. A gentle film of many delights.” David Stratton The Australian “Exquisite.” The Times
The interplay of the characters is an absolute delight and its set pieces are well worked so a good time is guaranteed for all.
Drinks from 6. The movie starts at 7. Let’s make the year a good one.
