WOLFRAM Reconciliation Week Screening Caloundra "a film for the ages"
Wed, 27 May
|Strand Cinema Caloundra
Based on real events, Wolfram is a frontier western drama with a heart-in-the-mouth chase at its core as young kids escape servitude to be reunited with their mother. It also shines a light on the use of indigenous children in mining (wolfram-tungsten). A powerful & visually beautiful film.

WOLFRAM was filmed on a rural property in the N-T and as always Warwick Thornton makes the most of the landscape. It looks spectacular.
The mining of tungsten aka Wolfram was a tough practice, like all endeavours in that part of Australia and in the settings here indigenous children Max and Kid have been roped in to helping a miner Billy ply his trade. Having been separated from their mother Pansy (Deborah Mailman) they don't have a lot of options.
When two outlaws Frank ( a simply incredible Errol Shand---the best baddie in Australian cinema since Chopper) and Casey appear the mood turns to unease and after Billy dies suddenly they snatch one of the children and head off to see a relative, Kennedy who lives on a lease call…
