About the Event

You Should Have Been Here Yesterday Film trailer HERE

You Should Have Been Here Yesterday combines hundreds of hours of lovingly restored, long lost  16mm footage with a salt-infused soundscape by Headland.

Not long ago a small group of wannabe troubadours discovered that they could make money screening surf films up and down the coast. Taking their

16mm film cameras out of the cities they helped inspire, and inadvertently documented, an Australian post-war cultural movement.

As we become more multi-cultural, sophisticated and grown-up their films were forgotten, rusting away in the back of cupboards and garages.

Following the path of Alby Thoms' seminal book SurfMovies, You Should've Been Here Yesterday set out to find, save, and restore, the rare and glorious

images of our wild and sometimes over-exuberant youth.

This cinematic poem tells the story of a wild community who took off up the coast and discovered a whole new way to live. Going back to the never-before-seen camera reels to ask the question – what do we keep and what do we leave behind?

Featuring interviews with Tim Winton, Margaret Pomeranz, Wayne Lynch, Bob McTavish, Albe Falzon, Evelyn Rich, Maurice Cole, Pauline Menczer, Monty Webber, John Witzig, Paul Witzig, Chris Brock, Midget Farrelly, David Treloar, Dick Hoole, Steve Otton. Inspired by Moonage Daydream and Jen Peedom’s Mountain

It's a  homage to Australia’s early surf-culture with unearthed footage set to an original soundtrack and is not to be missed.
